Quick Hits are 10-minute conversations designed to exercise your brain by letting you listen in on an unscripted conversation to hear other people‘s thoughts on a variety of subjects. In February of 2021 I and the members of my mastermind group thought other people might enjoy listening in on some of the lively conversations we were having. But we realized that no one was going spend 90-minutes listening to us going on about anything and sometimes nothing. Instead, we decided to pick one topic and have a short conversation to share. I took the reigns because facilitating those types of conversations sounded like fun. Over the course of a few months it grew from just members of our mastermind group to four (sometimes three if schedules go sideways) people from various parts of the world and from ”short” to exactly 10-minutes. Thus was born ”Quick Hits” hosted by me, Dr Robyn. I hope to get caught up with posting them here on PodBean at some point. As of this writing, I have over 100 ”episodes.” If you‘d like to see the videos of these conversations, they are available on my YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/DrRobynQuickHits If you have a topic you‘d like to hear discussed, I encouraged you to use the contact page of my website: https://drrobynodegaard.com/ to let me know.

Manipulation is an ugly word. The personal experiences that Rick Alcantara, and Ed Samuel shared highlight the darker aspects of people trying to separate us from our money or time to benefit themselves.
Kashaun Parker, and Mohan Ananda continue the conversation by talking about how you have to look out for people trying to take advantage of you in your business.
Sadly this is a conversation where we didn't have a good answer. If you are open and kind, there will always be people who trying to take advantage of you.
How do you notice it happening and what do you do about it?

Can you be confident and humble at the same time?
Friday May 13, 2022
Friday May 13, 2022
They seem to be a dichotomy. You can either be humble and modest about your accomplishments or you can be confident and proud. But I wondered if it was possible to be both confident and humble.
I asked Helen Stimson and Patrick McGowan what they thought. Helen suggested the word "approachable" and we talked about being able to recognize when you don't know.
I came away thinking humble and confident might be a spectrum and like most spectra, the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle.
What do you think? How do humble and confident go together?

How do you overcome a bad first impression?
Thursday May 12, 2022
Thursday May 12, 2022
It has the chance to happen every time you meet someone new. They are going to make some kind of judgement about you. Their first impression will be formed lightning fast.
If it's a bad impression, are you stuck with it? I asked Sara Oblak Speicher, MBA, Chris Thompson and Dr. Bob Choat about their experience with bad first impressions.
Sara made a really good point when she said, "To the right person you will never say the wrong thing and to the wrong person you will never say the right thing."
So maybe we should just be ourselves and let the impressions fall where they may. What do you think?

What is deep listening?
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Wednesday May 11, 2022
Yes there is another type of listening to think about. The idea of "deep" listening feels intense, purposeful and impactful to me. But my thinking so doesn't make it true. I needed to ask the question.
During the course of this conversation James Blair pointed out that humans can listen at twice the speed we can speak. That means at any moment half your brain's capacity could be wandering off from the conversation.
Having this conversation with thoughtful, intentional people like Jona Ohm, APR, Stewart Wiggins and James Blair made it the perfect place to explore the idea of deep listening while also practicing deep listening.
What does "deep listening" mean to you? How do you know if someone is deep listening to you?

It seems like bitterness is an accusation that is tossed out rather than an emotion (it is an emotion right?) that we think about and address.
I was accused of being bitter when I set some boundaries around a situation. I asked Sara Oblak Speicher, MBA, Heather Villa, PMP and Dr. Bob Choat about bitterness. What an amazing, thought provoking and useful conversation.
I am SO thankful that I have the opportunity to have and then share important conversations like this.
What are your thoughts about bitterness?

What does it mean to be a better human?
Monday May 09, 2022
Monday May 09, 2022
It's a weird phrase. I thought it meant "walk away," "turn the other cheek," or to "let something go."
But what I make up about it isn't nearly as interesting as being able to ask other people what they think.
Eric James Smith, Stephanie Byrwa and Simon Coles provide amazing insights into not only what it means to be a better human but actually how to do it.
What do you think? What does it mean to be a "better human?"

What do you do when you realize someone is untrustworthy?
Friday May 06, 2022
Friday May 06, 2022
This conversation brought to light how differently humans react when they realize someone isn't trustworthy. Should you talk to them about it? Just walk away? Look at what it is about you that makes you lie-to-able (how's that for a word)?
I asked Estelle Poiré, Alvaro Peralta and Coach M J Tolan how they handled untrustworthy people.
Do you agree or disagree with them?

What does accountability mean to you?
Thursday May 05, 2022
Thursday May 05, 2022
It's a word that gets tossed around a lot. Accountability partners. Accountability coaches. Accountability groups. We can be accountable to ourselves, to others, to a higher power. There can be a lack of accountability. And we can be held accountable.
But what does it actually mean? I asked Jennifer Pointer, Dr Cole Galloway and Nicole Anderson what they thought about accountability. We were able to touch on a surprising number of angles in just ten minutes.

How to not dread the mountain of work waiting when taking time off.
Wednesday May 04, 2022
Wednesday May 04, 2022
I am clearly the odd ball in this group. Taking time off, decompressing and not having my brain remind me that there is work piling up is hard for me.
Fortunately I had three people on this panel, Jane Dolente, Jeff Mangum and JC Glick, LTC (R), U.S. Army, MA, who had some tips for how they handle it.
Although to be fair, I will likely never be as stoic as JC is about it.
What about you? How do you get your brain to chill when it's chill time?
