Quick Hits are 10-minute conversations designed to exercise your brain by letting you listen in on an unscripted conversation to hear other people‘s thoughts on a variety of subjects. In February of 2021 I and the members of my mastermind group thought other people might enjoy listening in on some of the lively conversations we were having. But we realized that no one was going spend 90-minutes listening to us going on about anything and sometimes nothing. Instead, we decided to pick one topic and have a short conversation to share. I took the reigns because facilitating those types of conversations sounded like fun. Over the course of a few months it grew from just members of our mastermind group to four (sometimes three if schedules go sideways) people from various parts of the world and from ”short” to exactly 10-minutes. Thus was born ”Quick Hits” hosted by me, Dr Robyn. I hope to get caught up with posting them here on PodBean at some point. As of this writing, I have over 100 ”episodes.” If you‘d like to see the videos of these conversations, they are available on my YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/DrRobynQuickHits If you have a topic you‘d like to hear discussed, I encouraged you to use the contact page of my website: https://drrobynodegaard.com/ to let me know.

How do you tactfully tell someone a conversation is going in circles?
Thursday Feb 24, 2022
Thursday Feb 24, 2022
This topic came up when Michael Piperno, MS posted on LinkedIn that saying "Like I said..." is rude and not helpful.
That is true and sometimes you need to point out that a conversation isn't getting anywhere. I asked Michael, Domenico Ciarallo and Brandon Mahoney how they handle circular conversations.
The discussion was enlightening. Listen in and then let us know, what do you do when you realize a conversation isn't making progress?

How can leaders do a better job of judging performance?
Wednesday Feb 23, 2022
Wednesday Feb 23, 2022
It is easy to only promote or reward the squeaky wheel, the person you see every week. It is also common to fall into the trap of thinking everyone who does their job is "high performing" and everyone else is just "performing."
I asked Elizabeth Ribons, Diane Helbig and Glady Baradaran to share their expertise and experience with helping leaders become better are judging true performance AND giving that feedback in a timely fashion.
Do you agree that many leaders could handle this situation better?

How do you tell if you’re happy?
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
Tuesday Feb 22, 2022
When you stop to think about it it is an interesting question. How do you KNOW you're happy? Are you sure?
I asked Dr. Bob Choat, Stewart Wiggins and Dr Cole Galloway how they tell if they are happy. We enjoyed a great conversation about happiness. But I don't think we REALLY answered the question.
Do you know? How do you tell if you're happy? I'd love to hear your insights.

It sounds like a good strategy to only spend time with people who are smarter than you. But what does "smarter" mean? Is there a benefit to constantly be on the lookout for only "smart" people? Should you cull the "bottom" 30% of our acquaintances for smarter friends?
I asked Christopher Jerjian, David Horsewood and James D. Roumeliotis their thoughts on the saying, how and if it should be followed and what they do instead to be successful.
Do you agree or disagree with our conclusions?

How do you catch and stop yourself from overthinking?
Friday Feb 18, 2022
Friday Feb 18, 2022
Rumination, beating yourself up, mulling something over - Overthinking shows up in a lot of ways and for a lot of reasons. I had the opportunity to ask Pascal Derrien, Chuck Groot and Atif Agha how they addressed overthinking.
The conversation went beyond the average, "just get over it" advice.
Listen in and then let us know how overthinking shows up for you and what you do about it.

What is the connection between gratitude and happiness?
Thursday Feb 17, 2022
Thursday Feb 17, 2022
Does gratitude lead to happiness or happiness to gratitude? Is there a gender difference in noticing happiness/gratitude? Maybe gratitude is mushy.
Cole Galloway, Stewart Wiggins and Dr. Bob Choat where kind enough to wade into this conversation with me. I am thankful for their insights.
Listen in and then let us know how you think gratitude and happiness are connected.

How do you know if someone is listening and understanding you?
Wednesday Feb 16, 2022

We hear A LOT about how to listen and how to make others feel heard. But how do you tell if your message is getting across? I asked this question of three people from different backgrounds and with different perspectives.
Listen in as Francisco "Frank" Galindo, Gordon DelGiorno, Dr Jesse Carrie and I talk about how we make sure what we are saying is actually what the other person is hearing.

How do you organize your day to be successful?
Tuesday Feb 15, 2022
Tuesday Feb 15, 2022
Some people get so much done that it feels like they have more time in their day than the rest of us. I asked Dr George K. Cheriyan, Daniel T Gramkee and Gary Fredericks about maker days (get things done) versus meeting days, scheduling similar things together, writer's block and having a plan upended by client needs.
Listen in and then let us know how you organize your day to be both productive and to avoid burnout.

What is something you wish you had learned sooner?
Monday Feb 14, 2022
Monday Feb 14, 2022
Erica Breuer, Gudjon Bergmann and I shared a few things we wished we had learned sooner and things we are currently working on learning. And we wondered if learning something sooner puts you on a different trajectory in life. Which made us decide - "If I am happy with who I have become, I also have to be content with the path that got me here."
That doesn't mean others can't learn from our hard knocks and choose to make different mistakes.

Friday Feb 11, 2022
Friday Feb 11, 2022
The key to most success is doing the little steps over and over and over. I asked three people who have deep personal experience with holding themselves accountable to being consistent how they did it and what tips they could offer on the subject.
Listen in as Sara Oblak Speicher, Atif Agha, Dr. Bob Choat and I discuss what has worked for us.
