Quick Hits are 10-minute conversations designed to exercise your brain by letting you listen in on an unscripted conversation to hear other people‘s thoughts on a variety of subjects. In February of 2021 I and the members of my mastermind group thought other people might enjoy listening in on some of the lively conversations we were having. But we realized that no one was going spend 90-minutes listening to us going on about anything and sometimes nothing. Instead, we decided to pick one topic and have a short conversation to share. I took the reigns because facilitating those types of conversations sounded like fun. Over the course of a few months it grew from just members of our mastermind group to four (sometimes three if schedules go sideways) people from various parts of the world and from ”short” to exactly 10-minutes. Thus was born ”Quick Hits” hosted by me, Dr Robyn. I hope to get caught up with posting them here on PodBean at some point. As of this writing, I have over 100 ”episodes.” If you‘d like to see the videos of these conversations, they are available on my YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/DrRobynQuickHits If you have a topic you‘d like to hear discussed, I encouraged you to use the contact page of my website: https://drrobynodegaard.com/ to let me know.

What if life is unfair in your favor?
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
Thursday Feb 10, 2022
Last week on Quick Hits we talked about life being unfair and I noticed that we only discussed how life was unfair TO us (My fault. That's how I asked the question.) So today I wanted to asked if there was a "responsibility" when life was unfair in our favor.
This conversation with Tim Hawkes, Deborah Ager and Domenico Ciarallo was enlightening. How we talk about unfairness differs greatly depending on if it is unfair TO us or FOR us.
We would love to hear your thoughts on the subject. You can watch the original conversation here:

How do you manage frustration?
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Wednesday Feb 09, 2022
Such an interesting conversation to have with three men (I do wish more women would join Quick Hits). We discussed how frustration often shows up as anger and what the difference between the two is.
Listen in as Chason Forehand, Jonathan Gaev, Domenico Ciarallo and I wade through the world of frustration and how to catch it before it boils over and derails your day.

How do you tell productive conflict from useless conflict on teams?
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Tuesday Feb 08, 2022
Conflict is a necessary and healthy part of progress. But it is easy for a team to get into a cycle of counterproductive and distracting conflict. As a leader it is your job to help your team stay in productive conflict.
I had the pleasure of asking Bob Burg, Dawn Bell and Mohan Ananda to share their experience with conflict while creating/running high performance teams.
Mohan gave us the most succinct talking point: "Productive conflict creates innovation. Useless conflict creates confusion."
Do you agree or disagree with our takeaways? What would you have added to the conversation?

Can you un-burn a bridge?
Monday Feb 07, 2022
Monday Feb 07, 2022
Sometimes a bridge gets burned and you're glad to no longer be connected to that person. Other times, you might wish you could take back what was said.
I asked Atif Agha and Chason Forehand if they thought bridges could be rebuilt after having been burned. I found the conversation interesting and enlightening.
Have you ever unburnt a bridge? Was the new connection stronger or more tenuous?

What is the difference between being arrogant, aggressive and assertive?
Friday Feb 04, 2022
Friday Feb 04, 2022
Different words have different meanings but when we dug into the meat of what they each mean and when/how they are used, things got muddy. As with so many English words, there doesn't seem to be clear lines where one ends and another begins, particularly between aggressive and assertive.
Listen in as Simon Coles, Dr. Bob Choat, Stewart Wiggins and I grapple with how these words are applied and if they are applied appropriately/fairly or not. We would love to hear your take on the similarities and differences in these words.

Does replying to email quickly make you seem not busy and unimportant?
Thursday Feb 03, 2022
Thursday Feb 03, 2022
If you happen to be in LinkedIn when a message comes in, should you reply right away? Does it make you look like a loser who has nothing better to do than sit around on social media waiting for someone to message you?
Maybe we are thinking too hard about it.
I asked Brandon Mahoney, Domenico Ciarallo and Bridgette Mihalik how they handle their email, what they think when other people respond quickly and what is a reasonable length of time to wait for a response before wondering if the message went to spam.
Do you respond right away if you are able?

How do you react when life isn‘t fair?
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Wednesday Feb 02, 2022
Fairness is something even monkeys understand. If you give one a better reward for the same job the other will get angry. As adults humans don't usually throw outright tantrums about fairness. But we know and feel when something isn't fair.
I asked Francisco "Frank" Galindo, and Connie Whitman, about fairness. I found the conversation enlightening and I hope you will too.
How do you react when something isn't fair? What if the unfairness benefits you?

What do you do when you get asked to do something that goes against your morals?
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
Tuesday Feb 01, 2022
I thought this was going to be a straightforward answer - you don't do it - and then we would talk about how you get yourself out of the sticky situation of having been asked.
Rosalind Sedacca, Cole Galloway and Brenda St Louis created a much richer and more dynamic conversation. Listen in and then let us know what do you do when put in that situation?

It is human nature to want to help others and be giving. If you are running a business you have to be able to set a standard of work or a price point and hold that line.
I asked Simon Coles, Andrew Infantino, and Diane Helbig how they are able to do it in their businesses. The conversation made it quite clear that it is challenging and there is no cut and dried way to make it work.
Listen in and then let us know how you set a high bar and only work with those who can clear it.

How do you find a good advisor/coach/consultant?
Friday Jan 28, 2022
Friday Jan 28, 2022
How much they charge or how well they sell the idea of coaching doesn't tell you anything about how competent they are at helping you accomplish your goals.
I asked Simon Coles, Andrew Infantino, and Diane Helbig (two business owners and a business coach) to weigh in on the subject and I shared a bit about how I decide which clients to invite to work with me.
The conversation highlights the frustration of interviewing/hiring people who say they can but then don't help you (It has happened to me more than once) along with a few tips for finding the right person.
Listen in and then let us know, how do you find the right advice for your business and career?
