Quick Hits are 10-minute conversations designed to exercise your brain by letting you listen in on an unscripted conversation to hear other people‘s thoughts on a variety of subjects. In February of 2021 I and the members of my mastermind group thought other people might enjoy listening in on some of the lively conversations we were having. But we realized that no one was going spend 90-minutes listening to us going on about anything and sometimes nothing. Instead, we decided to pick one topic and have a short conversation to share. I took the reigns because facilitating those types of conversations sounded like fun. Over the course of a few months it grew from just members of our mastermind group to four (sometimes three if schedules go sideways) people from various parts of the world and from ”short” to exactly 10-minutes. Thus was born ”Quick Hits” hosted by me, Dr Robyn. I hope to get caught up with posting them here on PodBean at some point. As of this writing, I have over 100 ”episodes.” If you‘d like to see the videos of these conversations, they are available on my YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/DrRobynQuickHits If you have a topic you‘d like to hear discussed, I encouraged you to use the contact page of my website: https://drrobynodegaard.com/ to let me know.

What does ”Warriors spend more time resting and training than fighting” mean?
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
It is easy to get into an "all fight all the time" mode when there is too much to do and not enough time to do it (which is always). When I asked Francisco "Frank" Galindo, Jaclyn Zoccoli, and Christopher Jerjian what the saying about warriors meant I found it interesting that we focused on preparation (training) and hardly mentioned resting at all.
Listen in and then let us know how that adage might apply to your life.

Bridge the gap between workers and leaders/management?
Wednesday Jan 26, 2022
Wednesday Jan 26, 2022
There is a disconnect between leaders and the people doing the work. When I was an entry level employee I wondered why management never asked the "peon" who knew how to do the job.
I asked Philip Tate, Mohan Ananda, and Domenico Ciarallo what they have seen work to bridge that gap. They come from different perspectives and it created a really interesting conversation.
Why do you think there is almost always a gap and how do you think it should be addressed?

What are the risks of overconfidence?
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
Tuesday Jan 25, 2022
How do you catch overconfidence? How do you talk to someone who is being overconfident?
Overconfidence is a funny thing. If you knew you were being overconfident, you wouldn't do it. When we identify it in other people we are doubting their ability. Is it something that can be "caught" before the situation comes crashing down or is it only a postmortem discovery?
I asked Catherine Navarro, Eric James Smith and Chris McLaughlin to share their thoughts and experience. One thing we all agreed on, being publicly overconfident always leads to embarrassment.
Listen in and then let us know what you think - how do you notice when you are overconfident?

Is it possible to never have expectations?
Monday Jan 24, 2022
Monday Jan 24, 2022
This conversation started with a qualified "no" that is it impossible to not have expectations. We went on to talk about expectations being about control, managing expectations, and letting go of expectations when life throws you a curve.
Thank you to Brandon Mahoney, Ania Jarmulowicz, and Dr. Bob Choat for sharing their life experience with this topic and double thanks to Dr Bob for his personal and painful story about expectations going unmet.
Do you think it is possible to at least recognize expectations BEFORE they go unmet?

Do you owe the world your brilliance?
Friday Jan 21, 2022
Friday Jan 21, 2022
Does being good at something mean you should/have to do it to benefit the world? Domenico Ciarallo and Christopher Jerjian opened this conversation by answering yes to this question. I am quite firmly in the "no" camp.
We had a great conversation with each of us sharing and defending our positions. Listen in and then let us know what you think. What examples do you have of talents being used or "squandered?"

Are leaders born or made?
Thursday Jan 20, 2022
Thursday Jan 20, 2022
There are some people who seem to be born natural leaders, others can go to all the leadership training and still be lousy at it. But those with natural leadership ability are often not allowed to lead while those who simply can't lead are promoted up the ranks.
All of that said, at it's core, is leadership innate or learned?
I asked Sara Oblak Speicher, Doug Crowe and Bill Lindquist their thoughts and experience. Listen in on our conversation and then let us know if you agree or disagree with us.

Can integrity be learned as an adult?
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
Wednesday Jan 19, 2022
Having a lack of integrity, getting something "over" on someone, is beneficial in the short-term. Sometimes there are never consequences at all. Those without integrity often think people who have it are stupid for missing out on opportunity.
If a child hasn't learned the value of doing the right thing rather than the easy thing, can they learn to do it as an adult?
I had this conversation with James H. Lee, Stewart Wiggins and David Horsewood. While editing it I wondered what would cause someone to want to change if they are benefiting from not having integrity.
What do you think?

How much of success is luck?
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
Tuesday Jan 18, 2022
I have noticed that when I ask this question, successful people will say success is about hard work and noticing opportunities. People who haven't gotten their "big break" yet will say success is all about luck and sometimes they can be pretty bitter about it.
I asked Doug Crowe, Atif Agha and James D. Roumeliotis (that name was hard to say! Thanks for your grace James.) their thoughts on luck, success and how to notice opportunities. In this conversation I share a time I feel like I "missed the bus" when luck came my way early in my business. And what I took away is that you have to trust your gut, take the leap and keep making your own luck.

How to show compassion at work without it getting weird.
Monday Jan 17, 2022
Monday Jan 17, 2022
Compassion is an important human trait. But it can also be seen as intimate and too personal to be in the workplace.
I asked Sara Oblak Speicher, Marie Wright and Domenico Ciarallo how they thought compassion could be used in a professional environment. When I was editing this video I noticed the difference between the example Domenico provided of compassion and how Sara, Marie and I talked about it.
Listen in and let us know what you think about compassion and its place at work.

How do you know if you should trust your gut?
Friday Jan 14, 2022
Friday Jan 14, 2022
We know what it means when something doesn't "feel" right. And if you are like me, you've overridden that feeling and regretted it. But are there times when you go with the feeling and the other choice would have been better?
I asked Dinette Rivera, Cole Galloway and Chris McLaughlin how they know when to go with their gut and when it's just fear talking. What a great conversation we had.
Listen in and then let us know. How do you know when to go with your gut?
