Quick Hits are 10-minute conversations designed to exercise your brain by letting you listen in on an unscripted conversation to hear other people‘s thoughts on a variety of subjects. In February of 2021 I and the members of my mastermind group thought other people might enjoy listening in on some of the lively conversations we were having. But we realized that no one was going spend 90-minutes listening to us going on about anything and sometimes nothing. Instead, we decided to pick one topic and have a short conversation to share. I took the reigns because facilitating those types of conversations sounded like fun. Over the course of a few months it grew from just members of our mastermind group to four (sometimes three if schedules go sideways) people from various parts of the world and from ”short” to exactly 10-minutes. Thus was born ”Quick Hits” hosted by me, Dr Robyn. I hope to get caught up with posting them here on PodBean at some point. As of this writing, I have over 100 ”episodes.” If you‘d like to see the videos of these conversations, they are available on my YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/DrRobynQuickHits If you have a topic you‘d like to hear discussed, I encouraged you to use the contact page of my website: https://drrobynodegaard.com/ to let me know.

Wednesday Aug 04, 2021

What makes for a good conversation?
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
Tuesday Aug 03, 2021
There is little that is more satisfying than an intellectually stimulating or heartfelt conversation. Making them happen requires knowing what makes them happen (very meta isn't it?). Is there a way to create them on purpose? Or at least appreciate it when you're in one?
Listen in as Steve Thomson, James (Jim) Lee, and Gareth Russell join me in what turned out to be a very satisfying conversation.

Does having entry level experience make a leader better?
Friday Jul 23, 2021
Friday Jul 23, 2021
We disagreed on this one. Some of us believe that having a clue about what it's like to work in the trenches makes a leader better. Others think that once you've been in the trenches, you can't let go of the day-to-day work enough to be a good leader. This was a really interesting conversation with Gareth Russell, James (Jim) Lee and Steve Thomson.

Friday Jul 16, 2021
Friday Jul 16, 2021
You would think that would be a straightforward answer. But it turns out to be surprisingly difficult both for my clients and for Lena Sobel, James Blair, Dr Wayne Buckhanan and I. It could be that happiness is like flow, you only realize it when you're not in it. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

When is it ok to use a cognitive bias?
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
We can't second guess everything we know and test it to make sure we aren't falling into a cognitive bias of some sort. We have to use mental shortcuts and ignore some information just to be able to function in an information overloaded world. Simon Coles, Steve Thomson, Karina Hulstrom and I had a short chat about when it's okay to take the "lazy" way out and just go with what you know to be true.

How to catch yourself in a cognitive bias
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Tuesday Jul 13, 2021
Human brains are lazy. It doesn't want to have to process information or think too hard about anything. We assume we are right and only pay attention to information that agrees with what we already think. Simon Coles, Karina Hulstrom, Steve Thomson and I chatted about how to chat your brain being lazy and what to do about it.
